Hi all. just as zach once said, "if gwee can do it, so can you!" i have decided to post an entry!! haha.. jk.. no offence gwee.. just reminicsing the past =). i can see that you guys really have exciting life in units. i shall share with you guys how our(sh and me) life is in agts.
approx 6 months ago, when sh and me first stepped into agts as instructors, we, like all you guys, weren't aware of what's in it for us in a non-trainee life. there were only brief introductions, not because they were aware we know most of the people/areas, but because there weren't not many upper studies left(most were clearing their leave).
over the next few days, both of us tried the role as operators, teleporting things here and there, activating oil drums. basically, doing run throughs. never did i know there were actually so many things going on while the crew is happily in the crewstation!!
at the first few weeks, i personally felt overwhelmed by the amount of things we have to control, which includes the vehicle and crew actions as well.
the thought of us having to teach basically every tank gunner & commander in singapore, and making sure we are not teaching the wrong things, didn't help with our mental stress.
sometimes it's fun. to see the funny mistakes we all make during trainee times is nostalgic. sometimes it's just plain boring and tiring. having to repeat the teachings or fco again and again and again, and it's even more frustrating when e people were slping when we mentioned something important, and he repeats the same mistakes.
i know we are in the aircon during office hours, and the word simulator more often than not lead us to being labelled relaxing or "slack", but what i believe is otherwise. the responsibility of teaching the next batch - so they can teach others; and the mental dexterity and stamina required to make sure each and every trainee received their equal share of our teaching, are often than not underestimated and under-rated.
just imagine you are now concentrating on solving a maths question. now imagine you keep that kind of intensity for 10 hours. of course, it's shag too.
this stereotypcial view brings us to being constantly lased by the entire sungei gedong camp. not to mention our very own sergeant majors.
nevertheless, we are always cheered by the visiting of our fellow ex-coursemates. im sure you guys are happy to see us ya? i think i see yong sheng the most times haha.
yup yup, so that's more or less sums up my agts experience.
one big motivation i get in army is that my men/trainees get off something from me, and when everytime im greeted with gd morning/afternoon/evening sergeant, especially when it's been quite awhile since i taught him, i feel happy because he remembered me as a sergeant. someone who gave him something. someone he respected. someone he remembered.
